What got you into CrossFit?
-I became interested in CrossFit after watching the 2015 Games. I am a mother of two, and I have struggled with body weight ever since giving birth in 2001 as a 21 year-old. In the last couple of years I have finally started to make an effort to discover myself and get more in touch with my body. After almost two years of Zumba and Spin classes, I knew I wanted more, and was very unhappy with my results. I have never been “athletic” – I was the girl who walked the mile in high school – so I truly believed there was no way for me to actually get involved in CrossFit.
My husband joined a CrossFit box in Southampton and I watched him physically and mentally transform right before my eyes. I was jealous to say the least, and still believed I would never experience something like that. Then he bought me some classes at Grassfed CrossFit! I remember getting the email and feeling so excited yet so scared and nervous at the same time. Naturally, I am glad I had the little push I needed to walk in the door and meet Candice, who made me feel welcome and got me started.
What are the biggest changes you’ve noticed?.
-CONFIDENCE! Although I have seen major changes in my body, like actually seeing my biceps in the mirror as my shoulders broaden, seeing myself photograph better from the healthy glow in my skin, my clothes feeling and fitting better (I had to replace most of my wardrobe), and my legs looking stronger and healthy, my confidence is my greatest tool for life, and it’s been totally rejuvenated, which I can attribute to my experiences at CrossFit.
What do you enjoy the most about CrossFit?
-The feeling I get after a hard WOD – that feeling of hating the WOD then wanting to do it all over again and PR my time or reps.
What do you find the biggest challenge to be?
-Olympic weightlifting movements. I’m learning patience!
What would you say is your favorite movement and why?
-Deadlifts! There is something about a deadlift that makes me feel badass.
What would you say to someone who is hesitant to try CrossFit?
-I would tell them (and I do tell people) that if I can do it, so can they. Learning how to scale properly is making my experiences better and better.
What challenges lie ahead that you are most excited about?
-Pull-ups, rope climbs, lifting a keg over that damn bar, running 400 meters without stopping!
What’s your ideal workout?
-Light and fast AMRAPs.

-I would like to say a huge thank you to my husband for giving me the push I needed. Thank you to Coach Candice for being so welcoming, kind, patient and helpful. So grateful for Coach Ashlie, who brings her amazing vibe to the 530 am class. I am very lucky to have a great group of friends to workout with, along with an amazing support group and coaching – I love the “Breakfast Club!” CrossFit has improved my life in so many ways, and it’s given me a new beginning.
